Healthy Table Cooking Classes
The Healthy Table serves as a place for people to gather for hands-on cooking classes that emphasize the importance of how healthy eating can positively impact every aspect of one’s life. Whether it’s for our medically based programs, including Diabetes Prevention Program, Pedal for Parkinson’s, MS Programs, or our Hypertension programs, or a fun class for families, the Healthy Table aims to teach how cooking healthy can be affordable and easy, and help create community!
Whenever possible, we use fresh ingredients from our fruit, vegetable, and herb garden outside the branch’s front doors. This growing season, we have harvested a variety of herbs, as well as peppers, watermelon, strawberries, cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, several lettuces, green onions, and eggplant.
We work closely in collaboration wtih OU, Reasor’s, Educate, and the Tulsa Health Department to provide classes; our five state-of-the-art cooking stations include induction stovetops, sinks, disposals, and all necessary cooking tools and utensils. Double ovens allow for baking for larger groups, or multiple dishes. In addition, the flat screen TV in the kitchen provides the opportunity to show additional information during classes.
Kids Can Cook
Kids ages 4-12 will have fun in these hands-on classes learning nutrition, cooking, and kitchen safety skills. Each class is written and taught by the Healthy Table Dietitians. As a group the kids will learn how to follow a recipe while working with different kitchen and cooking tools. The recipes will change each month, so you can sign up for one or multiple classes. Space is limited to 10 participants.
